Fields of Dreams

This is an article from mops.org, by Heather Bryant

My lifelong dream was to own a self-sufficient farm. In my dream I would have a beautiful century-old house on top of a mountain that overlooked hundreds of acres of well-tended pasture and woodlands. I would raise two wonderful children – a boy and a girl – on this homestead with my handsome and attentive husband. We would raise all of our own crops and maybe sheep or goats, too. Definitely chickens.
And you know what? We did. I know – crazy, right? We actually packed up everything from the city and bought a farm on top of a mountain in rural West Virginia. Our home is a classic farmhouse built in 1890 on 60+ acres. When we moved there our daughter was two years old and I was pregnant. Our son was born there. We raised cattle and put in flower gardens. It was a dream fulfilled.
Except I was completely miserable.

The Real Reason You Need to Be Organized

This is an article from mops.org, by Kathi Lipp

WHY do you want to get organized?
Oh no, my question is not whether you want to get organized or not. I’ve never met a woman who didn’t want to be more organized.
But the deeper question is, why? Why do you want to get more organized? What is driving you to buy color-coded bins and alphabetize your spices?

Our Kitchen Counter: Reflections on My Kids Growing Up

This is an article from mops.org, by Krista Dulaney

My boys love to sit at our kitchen bar counter. Our house floor plan is open - a wide space so that while sitting in one of the bar stools, you can see most of the living area from the kitchen counter. It's great for parties and for watching the kids play while I sit and work on the day's to-do lists. There's nothing particularly special about the counter itself, the color is a soft black flecked with grays. But still, the counter is important.

I don't know if it's the height of the bar stools or if my boys like that the stools spin, but there's something that raws them to the kitchen counter. They sit and talk to me about what I'm doing, writing or making. They ask questions and make requests and I respond, admittedly with annoyance at times. We play restaurant front he sides of the counter, ordering sausage pizzas and strawberry milkshakes and peanut butter and kelly sandwiches from one another and serving them up with imaginary flourish. We pay for our goods with invisible bills and always make sure to give back the correct amount of pretend change before wishing our customers to have a good day.
